Nendran Banana

Nendran banana, also known as Ethapazham, is Kerala's prized banana variety and holds GI (Geographical Indication) status, reflecting its unique origin and quality. These large, starchy bananas have thick skin that ranges from green to golden yellow when ripe, with a dense, slightly tangy flesh that becomes sweeter as it matures. Nendran bananas are uniquely versatile — they are eaten ripe as a fruit, fried into the famous Kerala banana chips, steamed as a morning snack, or used in payasam and other desserts. They are richer in dietary fibre and iron compared to Robusta bananas, making them especially beneficial for anaemia prevention. The starch in unripe Nendran acts as a prebiotic, nourishing beneficial gut bacteria. These 6 bananas are sourced directly from farmer cooperatives in Thrissur and Palakkad districts. Consume ripe ones within 2 days. Unripe ones can be stored at room temperature and will ripen in 4–6 days. Origin: Kerala, India.
